OUR

STORY

The Fondation Gisèle Faubert Inc. was founded in 1999 by Mrs. Gisèle Faubert in order to provide financial assistance to families with children suffering from any disease or disorder. Mrs. Faubert was a hard worker and, in 1999, she was the lucky winner of a large amount of money. After receiving hundreds of letters from people wanting help, she set up the Foundation to help the children who did not have the chance that her children had had. This woman of heart had as value the mutual aid, the love of others and the respect; it was therefore essential to be able to give back to the community, through the Foundation. The mission was obvious at the time. Already visionary, Mrs. Faubert has noted that the system allowed the wealthy to have faster access to resources for some pediatric care. For her, it was unacceptable that children were integrated into the systems in different ways or times. It is with pride that the Foundation recently announced that it has donated more than $ 1 million has been donated over the past 18 years to families in need.

ADDING A NEW MISSION

Unfortunately, Mrs. Gisèle Faubert lost her fight against cancer in January 2014. She was lucky to leave surrounded by her family and loved ones. She died at the Vaudreuil- Soulange’s palliative care home because there was no such service nearby her area. A palliative care home provides quality care, comfort and a peaceful environment for end- of-life patients. It is even more important to consider that the well-being made is not only for the patients, but also for the family members and the loved ones who are experiencing the loss of a loved person. In her legacy, Mrs. Faubert asked the members of the Foundation’s board of directors to perpetuate her work. At the first meeting of the board of directors, after the death of Mrs. Faubert, an idea imposed itself: the Foundation had to add another mission : to open a care home palliative in the territory of Jardins-Roussillon in order to give back the well-being received during this hard period to the community.

THE

FOUNDER

Mrs. Gisèle Faubert was born on April 15, 1949. She was the 8th member of a family with nine children. She grew up in the region of Saint-Étienne-de-Beauharnois and she moved to Mercier in the late 1960’s. She was the proud mother of two children; a daughter, Dominique and a boy, Louis, and was a grand-mother five times. Unfortunately, she did not have had the chance to know her last granddaughter born in 2016.

Mrs. Faubert has always been involved in the community. She was a great helper in fundraising for Scouts, and was involved in the organization of both provincial and municipal election campaigns.

On February 12th, 1999, the life of Mrs. Faubert had changed when she became the winner of a large amount lottery, given to only one person. Following this unparalleled opportunity, she remained herself and continued to be involved in the community as much.

She founded the Fondation Gisèle Faubert Inc. in September 1999 and, to date, the Foundation has donated more than $ 1 million to families of sick children. Mrs. Faubert had participated in several fundraising events for the Anna Laberge Hospital Foundation, and was one of the generous donors helping the renovation of the Mercier’s Church in 2000.

In March 2013, Mrs. Faubert was diagnosed with cancer and, despite the faith, the conviction of a future remission and combativity, she died on January 14th, 2014, surrounded by her loving family.
